HALLASAN MOUNTAIN WITH OHANA ADVENTURE

12 to 18 May 2025

I with two other researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM) at UTM visited Jeju and Seoul in March 2016 as part of our research collaboration.

We had the chance to witness Allah's creation, the splendour of Mount Halla,  while we were in Jeju. I decided that I will climb this mountain someday, insya Allah.

When I took part in Falljaren Classic (FC) Denmark July 2019, I was really pleased with the tip-top management and services given by FC staff during the expedition.

When FC Korea debuted in 2019, I was thrilled to see Hallasan as one of its components. Tickets frequently sold out within 30 minutes of opening, though, because it was extremely popular.

When I began hiking Bukit Melati weekly with family and friends after retiring in 2024, I shared my wish about wanting to climb Mount Halla and see the beauty of Hallasan.

One day, Dr. Liyana, my niece, shared about climbing Mount Halla with Ohana Adventure. Our plan then started, with eight people travelling to Jeju and Hallasan via Ohana Adventure. The eight of us are my brother Dr. Azhar and his wife K Hae, my sister Idah, my niece Dr. Liyana, Idah's neighbour Sa'adie and her sister Ros, my son Aiman, and I. Total participants joining the trip are 15 plus representative from Ohana Adventure, Mr. Aisy.

Here are my stories.

Hallasan is commonly considered to be one of the three main mountains of South Korea, along with Jirisan and Seoraksan. (Wikipedia)
There are four Hallasan trails on and around the mountain, but only two of these trails will take you all the way up to the volcano’s crater lip – the Gwaneumsa trail, and the Seongpanak trail:

The long seashore stretches for 9 km and has cobalt colored seawater and evergreen forests scattered around the vicinity, making the scenery very beautiful. Just off the beach is Biyangdo Island. The white sandy beach is about 20 meters long, and the water is 1.2 meters deep.

It features themed exhibition halls, model houses, and traditional folk games, attracting numerous visitors.

DAY 5: TRIP TO JEJU WITH OHANA ADV

9:00 am Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff (μ£Όμƒμ ˆλ¦¬λŒ€(λŒ€ν¬λ™μ§€μ‚Ώκ°œ))
Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff is a stone pillar formed by lava that flowed out of the crater and contracted as it cooled rapidly. It is characterized by its polygonal staircase-like form. The stones are 30 to 40 meters high, hexagonal in shape, and line the coast for about 1 kilometer. The constant crashing of the waves is a highlight not to be missed.
10:30 am - To Yongmeori Coast
Yongmeorihaean Coast (μš©λ¨Έλ¦¬ν•΄μ•ˆ)
The name Yongmeori Coast got its name because the beach looks like a dragon that is jumping into the ocean with its head raised (β€œYong” means dragon and β€œMeori” means head in Korean).
Yongmeori is a sandstone bed created by layers of sand that have been deposited for tens of millions of years.
1:00 pm - Lunch local dish - seafood and grilled mackerel
2:30 pm - Usulloc Tea Garden and Innisfree Jeju House
Initially, Jeju Island was barren land covered only with rocks and whipped by wild winds from tge surrounding ocean. In the beginning, it was no-man's land even by the local standard.
Using modern technology to maximize all aspects of the land's natural resources at every step in the cultivation process, Osulloc has established a high standard for the quality and service for their tea production.
There are 3 Osulloc Tea Farms on Jeju Island and each farm has unique geological characteristics and produces different types of tea.
Just a 3 minute walk from Usulloc Tea Garden, we can find Innisfree Jeju House to shop for Innisfree Cosmetics.
4:00 pm - Saebyelul Volcanic Hill
Saebyeol Oreum, a volcanic cone, is most well-known for its beautiful shape and fact that you can see almost all of the nearby landscape when at its top. Every year, Jeju hosts the Jongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival on the first full moon of the lunar calendar where they light the pampas grass on Saebyeol Oreum on fire. This makes the entire surrounding area ignite in flames and becomes a once-in-a-lifetime sight. To the north, you can see a small thicket of trees, and burial mounds are found all around the base of the mountain. The mountain is 520 meters above sea level but it only takes about 30 minutes to hike to the top.
